A new cultural and creative industry park, the largest in downtown Shanghai by the shore of the Huangpu River, will open next year.
The 100,000-square-meter park has a 739-meter-long waterfront facing the Huangpu River. It has Yangjing Port to the east, Minsheng Road to the west, Binjiang Road to the south, and the river to the north.
The park will utilize the former Minsheng Wharf complex built in the early 20th century. The wharf was once the most advanced in the Far East.
The western part of the wharf complex will be renovated to house a theater, a cinema and a T-stage for fashion show. Big-name fashion houses and design companies from home and abroad will rent spaces here.
The eastern part of the complex will be converted into a hub of creative workshops and conference and exhibition venues. The massive silos will be transformed into what is billed the “Broadway of the East” by a performance company.
Total investment in the park is estimated at about 1 billion yuan (US$ 164.3 million).
