New collection of Chinese prose published in Russia

A new collection of the 20th century Chinese prose has been published in Russia.

The new collection, entitled “Border Town: 20th Century Chinese Prose,” was co-published on Tuesday by the Confucius Institute of St. Petersburg State University and local publishing house Karo.

The book features previously untranslated stories by Lao She, Shen Congwen, Xu Xu and Zhang Ailing, known in the West as Eileen Chang.

Karo published a volume of the 21st century Chinese prose in 2011 and plans to unveil other translations as Russian people have become increasingly interested in China and Chinese culture in recent years.
