The chief executives of the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions have arrived in Beijing to brief the central government on recent economic, social and political developments. President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao each met with Leung Chun-ying and Chui Sai On Friday in Beijing.
Leung Chun-ying is the third chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR. It’s his first time in Beijing since being appointed to office in March. Hong Kong’s per capita GDP for 2012 is expected to exceed 35-thousand US dollars, a 30 percent rise compared to fifteen years ago when it was returned to China.
Chui Sai On is the second chief executive of the Macao SAR. He started his term in office in 2009. Macao has witnessed rapid economic development since its return in 1999. Its per capita GDP is one of the highest in East Asia.
