Hunan Province will vigorously promote rural biogas technology in Chang-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan (CZT) City Cluster in the following years. 300 large-scale biogas projects and five to eight super-large-scale ones will be constructed. The province will strive to realize the goal that, by the end of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, the total output of the main waste produced by agricultural production and rural life decreases by 30%, the annual decrease of carbon dioxide emission reaches 5.55 million tons, and the utilization rate of the rural renewable resource increases by 50% than that at the end of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”.
Hunan, a big province in breeding, is located around the Xiangjiang basin, with a lot of non-treated breeding waste injected into it, which seriously affects the residents’ living environment and physical health. Experts estimate that the pollution caused by breeding waste takes about one third of the province’s total pollution. The biogas technology is the most direct, effective and economic method in dealing with rural pollution which mainly includes domestic livestock’s faeces.
At present, there have been 2.27 million biogas pools for household use, 12,154 small-scale biogas projects and 2,871 middle and large scale biogas projects. The annual production of biogas by all biogas projects reaches about 900 million cubic meters, which is equal to 640 thousand tons of standard coal, decreasing the emission of carbon dioxide by 1.7 million tons annually and increasing income or reducing expenditure for farmers by over two billion yuan.
