Chinese police told to ensure year-end security

Chinese police were told at a national conference on Tuesday to make vigorous efforts to ensure social security around the end of this year.

Yang Huanning, vice minister of public security, called on police across the country to protect people’s safety and property with a sense of “high responsibility.”

According to Yang, the police’s efforts should include strict enforcement of road traffic management, fire precautions, controls of hazardous materials and security measures in large-scale activities, which become particularly risk-prone fields during events in the year-end and New Year period.

The vice minister also asked police nationwide to deepen their work in solving social disputes and public grievances.

Effective responses and proper solutions are also needed in case of major emergencies, Yang said.

Moreover, the senior official told the police to solve problems and maintain stability in accordance with the rule of law.

Special security campaigns should be combined with comprehensive risk prevention and control to build up a full-scale social security system, he said.

Police officers should regard efforts to carry out their duties as part of the study and implementation of the spirit of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and work to ensure a harmonious and stable social environment after the congress, Yang added.
