Yuzhong District, Chongqing becomes pilot unit of Ministry of Health

The launching meeting of “pilot project of service mode for prevention of mother-to-fetus transmission of Aids, syphilis and hepatitis B in west China” was held in Chongqing on November 14. Yuzhong District of Chongqing was selected as one of the two pilot units for the project by the Ministry of Health as well as the only pilot unit in Chongqing.

Statistics from the Health Center for Women and Children of Yuzhong District show that in January-March 2012, there are 17 HIV-positive persons, 39 syphilitics and 1,193 persons infected with hepatitis B among the pregnant women who have received prenatal screening of Aids, syphilis and hepatitis B. The 1,193 persons infected with hepatitis B account for 4.6% of the total.

With the help from the Health Center for Women and Children of Chongqing, District and Community Health Service Center, the government of Yuzhong District will increase follow-up visits and improve its quality for a maximum intervention and prevention of infection resulted from mother-to-fetus transmission of Aids, syphilis and hepatitis B.

During the two-year project period, pregnant women who reside in Yuzhong District or take antenatal examination in the 8 designated midwifery institutions within the area under administration of Yuzhong District could take examinations or receive relevant treatment of the above three diseases for free.
