Chongqing leads West China in vegetable processing

Chongqing’s processing rate of vegetables ranks first in west China and is expected to exceed 21% in 2012, according to Chongqing Agriculture Commission on November 10.

In 2011, the cultivated area and total production of vegetables was respectively 9,280,000 mu and 14,080,000 tons in Chongqing while the processing rate of vegetables rose to nearly 20% from a rate of less than 15% in 2006, ranking the first in west China.

The gross sales of processed vegetables exceeded 10 billion yuan in 2011 and the processing rate is expected to increase by 1-2 percentages in 2012.
