The People’s Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Thursday will carry an editorial that hails the opening of the 18th CPC National Congress and calls for achieving new victory in building socialism with Chinese characteristics.
The five-yearly event will open at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing and last seven days till Nov. 14.
With high expectations from the people, the CPC gathering bears a historic mission to carry forward traditions and pave a new way for the future, and it will open a new chapter in the development of the CPC and the country, reads the editorial entitled “Winning new victory for socialism with Chinese characteristics.”
The 18th CPC National Congress is an important meeting that comes at a critical stage of China’s construction of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and at a crucial time of deepening the country’s reform and opening up and accelerating the transformation of economic development pattern, says the editorial.
The congress will hold high great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, take the Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents as guiding principles, thoroughly implement the “Scientific Outlook on Development”, according to the editorial.
The editorial notes the congress will carry on ideological emancipation, press forward reform and opening up, override difficulties, unswervingly advance along the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics and work to build China into a prosperous society.
A successful congress will have an important and profound impact for the Party to unify people of all ethnic groups across the country, facilitate socialist modernization and create new prospects for socialism with Chinese characteristics, it says.
Since the 16th CPC National Congress, the Party has traversed a tortuous course and made extraordinary achievements in economic and social development, the editorial says.
“The exciting achievements made by the CPC over the past decade have demonstrated the superiority and vitality of socialism with Chinese characteristics and laid a solid foundation for building a moderately prosperous society in all respects,” it says.
The editorial attributes the achievements over the past decade mainly to theoretical innovations based on practice — the Scientific Outlook on Development that provides forceful guidance to building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and accelerating the socialist modernization drive.
The editorial says the Scientific Outlook on Development represents the latest fruits of China’s socialist theory and serves as the forceful ideological instrument guiding the work of the Party and the country, and blazes a new trail for socialism with Chinese characteristics.
The ups and downs China has experienced since 1840, along with reform and opening up over the past 30 years, have manifested that socialism with Chinese characteristics is a great banner to lead all development and progress in modern China and the only way of rejuvenating the Chinese nation, according to the editorial.
More than 2,200 delegates to the Party congress must bear their political and historical tasks to practice democracy and freely express their views for the good of the country and the people, it says.
