Chongqing invests 22.5b yuan into major tourism projects in 1st 9 months

The 2012 Chongqing Forum on the Development of Major Tourist Attractions was convened in the Xiannv Mountains, Wulong County on October 19, 2012.

Chongqing’s Vice mayor Tan Qiwei pointed out that the city should abide by the mentality of both “creating quality brands” and “conducting strong marketing”, so as to fulfill the task of upgrading the six outstanding scenic spots in 2012.

Since the beginning of this year, Chongqing continued to pursue the strategy of “major projects, large investments and grand marketing” and speed up its efforts in the development of major tourist attractions including the six outstanding scenic spots.

From January to September, the city has invested a total of 22.5 billion yuan into its major tourist attractions, representing a year-on-year increase of 16%. Among all these investments, the six outstanding scenic spots received 8.2 billion yuan; major hot spring projects took up 5 billion yuan; the five-star standard cruise project of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River shared 1.2 billion yuan; and the rest 8.1 billion yuan went to some other tourism projects.

Tan demanded that Chongqing should push forward its innovations in such fields like tourism management model, business structure, green development pattern, service model and regional cooperation mode, accelerate the transformation and upgrade its tourist industry, so as to realize a leapfrog development in this industry.

Meanwhile, the value of an eco-tourism spot lies in the preservation of the original eco-environment. Therefore, Chongqing should strengthen its awareness of eco-environment protection, carry out rigorous planning and management in various tourist attractions, and increase financial input in environmental protection and ecological improvement.
