Japan, US hold joint military drill on island defence

Japan’s Kyodo News Agency says Japan and the US have held a joint military drill focused on island defence on Guam.

Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force and the US Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa participated in the exercise. Japan and the US started their joint military exercises at the end of August. Though Japan’s Ministry of Defense says the drill is not directed against any third country, it has attracted a lot of attention at a very sensitive time for the region. Japan is frequently involved in island disputes with surrounding countries.
