Experts: Chongqing’s waterborne development amid challenges and opportunities

The ADB (Asian Development Bank) International Forum of the sustainable development of inland navigation was held on September 11, on which a number of experts, scholars and officials talked about the development of inland navigation.

Chonqing, with 90% of its imports and exports relying on waterborne transportation and the No.1 world ranking in the amount of cargoes transported by the Yangtze River, is becoming the most important transport hub of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

However, experts on the forum thought Chongqing was facing challenges in inland navigation.

Chongqing is thought to have difficulties in shipping standardization, scale and specialization and inland navigation competitiveness, needing an efficient service system and upgrade for ports and wharves.
