IKEA, the world’s largest furniture retailer, formally initiated foundation in Chongqing New North Zone on August 28. This IKEA Mall, expected to be open in 2014, is to be China’s biggest standard shop in line with European standards. It has a total investment of 144 million US dollars and occupies an overall floorage of 100 thousand square meters.
IKEA Chongqing sits at Yudu Highway (Airport Highway) of New North Zone, being next to West-outlets Shopping Plaza. It is planned to be a two-storey building, whose 2,818-square-meter dining room can hold more than 700 people. At the same time, the mall is equipped with 1,600 parking lots.
New North Zone will make efforts to improve surrounding traffic situation to support IKEA Chongqing, according to Commerce Department of New North Zone. On one hand, New North Zone is to renovate entrances and exits of West-outlets and widen roads around; on the other hand, a passageway will be built connecting Jinyu Station of Rail Transit Line 3 and IKEA to facilitate pedestrians.
