Trains run from Chongqing to Germany in 300 hrs

A Chinese ocean vessel was entering Hamburg Harbor, Germany on July 4, 2012 local time. More Chinese cargoes are expected to be transported here through "Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe" Railway.

The construction of Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway officially started in September 2008. The railway will connect Lanzhou City, Gansu Province in the north with Chongqing in the south, via Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Sichuan Province. The total investment of the project is estimated to be 77.4 billion yuan.

The mileage of Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway will be reduced from 1,466 kilometers to 820 kilometers after its completion in 2015. The freight of the section will be reduced by 1/3 and the time by 2/3 (about 7 hours) with the higher speed. The train on the shortest route started from Chongqing is going to link inland China with Europe in the shortest time.

The travel time of the railway will hopefully be shortened to about 300 hours, said Zhu Youwen, the chairman of China Railway Container Logistics Co., Ltd.
