Famous performance artist Chen Qiang died in Beijing

Famous performance artist Chen Qiang passed away in Beijing Anzhen Hospital on the evening of June 26, he was 94.

Chen Qiang was born in 1918, formerly known as Chen Qingsan (陈庆三). In his early childhood his family was very poor, he fled with his parents to Taiyuan. He joined the Taiyuan Youth Theater in 1936 when he studied in middle school. In 1942 he joined the Communist Party of China.

In decades of his film career, Chen Qiang has starred in the classic films “The Red Detachment of Women” and “The White-Haired Girl“. He also participated in the shooting of several comedies. His son Chen Peisi, is also a well-known comedian and film actor.
