Imports & exports of “two areas” hit USD 8.47 billion in first five months

Imports and exports of Chongqing Lianglu / Cuntan Bonded Port Area and Xiyong Integrated Free Trade Area (“two areas”) in the first five months of 2012 produced 8.47 billion US dollars, up 720% year on year and 330 million more than that of last year, according to Chongqing Administration of Customs on June 25.

According to statistics, the external trade of the processing sector, mainly involving laptop programs, yielded 5.87 billion US dollars in the January-May period, increasing by 146% year on year and contributing to 69.3% of the total of the “two areas”.

The two areas will further engage in international freight transport services, and such business as distribution and purchase, with the guidance of Chongqing Administration of Customs.

Imports and exports of the “two areas” might hitch a ride on an imminent spending spree of IT products in the second half of 2012. (Translated by Qu Xinyan
