Three Gorges cruises to receive 600,000 tourists this year

The “Symposium on Accelerating Development of the Yangtze River Three Georges Cruise Economy” kicked off in Chongqing’s Jiulongpo District on June 25, 2012.

The number of tourists received by the Three Georges Cruise will be up to 600,000 this year and is expected to reach one million by 2015, according to the symposium.

Tan Qiwei, Chongqing’s Deputy Mayor, said that there are 21 Yangtze River cruises in Chongqing now, more than half of the total. The number of tourists received by Chongqing’s cruises in 2011 soared to 480,000 from 320,000 in 2010.

Tan also said that Chongqing will develop the tourism along the Yangtze River by exploring the market for medium- and long-distance cruises and expanding the cruise tourism.
