Li Changchun emphasizes reform of cultural sector

Senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Li Changchun has underlined the importance of reform in the cultural sector during his trip to central province of Henan from Wednesday to Sunday.

Li,a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, asked local authorities to expand the coverage of public cultural services at grass-roots communities.

Only by establishing a system that cater to public interest and market needs can stage art become alive and have vitality, according to the official.

During his visit to local enterprises, Li asked them to stay competitive by embracing innovation.

Li also visited local villages and performing troupes in several cities across the province, during which he stressed the necessity to reform state-owned artistic groups and support the development of private ones.

The sixth plenary session of the CPC’s 17th Central Committee in October 2011 adopted a guideline that is aimed at promoting the influence of socialist culture and boosting China’s soft power.
