French industrial group Bouygues will build a section of the world’s largest sea bridge between Hong Kong and Macao which will boost trade in the region.
With a record length of 42 km, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (港珠澳大橋) linking Hong Kong to Macau via Zhuhai will be the longest bridge above the sea. It will cost from 7.3 to 9 billion euros.
The construction in Macau is under the direct control of the Chinese authorities, the building work began two years ago. French company Bouygues was about to get the contract of the long-standing part of the bridge managed by Hong Kong authorities.
Wednesday, Bouygues announced in a statement that it had won the contract with a local partner, China Harbor, to build 9.4 km dual three-lane highway over the deep waters of Hong Kong. The work will begin in a few weeks and should be completed in four years.
This infrastructure will boost trade between Guangdong Province, the richest part in China, and two Special administrative regions Hong Kong and Macao. people in Hong Kong will find relax in the casinos of Macao, while the city of Zhuhai will be much better connected to the airport and port infrastructure of Hong Kong.
