China is interested in the development of transport and logistics network to Russia via the South Ural

The governor of Russian Chelyabinsk Region, Mikhail Yurevich began his work in Beijing at the meeting of the SCO Business Council. The head of the Ural region noted in his speech that Southern Urals has devoted to the development of a good relationship with China.

The governor of the Chelyabinsk region signed an important agreement with the Government of China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The strategic agreement will promote economic / trade relations, investment, and transportation / logistics network. At the same time a Protocol of measures for the next two years was signed. These agreements will ensure the development of international transport corridor along the route: Urumqi (China) – Dostyk / Horgos (Kazakhstan) – Kartaly (Chelyabinsk Region, Russia) as well as the freight on the specified route.

The governor of Chelyabinsk region underlined the importance of the agreement with Xinjiang International logistics company “Euro-Asian Continental Bridge”. The company, upon completion of the first stage of trade and logistics centre by 2014, will provide contracts for the delivery of goods and services of at least 2 million tons per year. A similar agreement with the corporation “Hayer” will give the centre extra cargo of 500,000 tons per year. Similar works are underway on agreements with other companies.

The new transport and logistics network will optimize and streamline the traffic flow, reduce transportation costs.

With the support of the SCO Business Council and the participation of Chinese partners a pilot project will be launched to create an effective transport corridor within the SCO. It will link the western route between China and Russia. This brings a new level of international and interregional cooperation, gives a powerful impetus to the national economic development of SCO member states.
