China will provide a grant of 150 million yuan (over $ 23.5 million) for the technical and economic development of Tajikistan.
According to the press service of Tajikistan, the relevant inter-governmental agreement was signed on Tuesday in Beijing after the talks between the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Chinese President Hu Jintao.
During the negotiations both parties had expressed interest in the construction of hydropower plants, thermal power plants, reconstruction and construction of road and rail infrastructure, as well as oil and gas development in Tajikistan.
“Cooperation with China is a priority in the foreign policy of Tajikistan,” said Rahmon. According to him, over 20 years of cooperation between the two countries have developed partnerships.
President Hu Jintao praised the role of Tajikistan in strengthening stability and security in the region, as well as in the fight against terrorism.
It was noted in the talks that the two countries are developing cooperation in energy, mining, transportation and agriculture. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation in defense sphere and in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
On Tuesday Tajik President Rahmon concludes his state visit to China, which began June 1. On June 6-7 he will attend the SCO summit in Beijing.
