June 3, Shenyang Green Island Sports Center (沈阳绿岛体育中心) was demolished by explosion.
The Shenyang Green Island Sports Center once was the largest indoor soccer field in Asia, it was designed to accommodate 33,000 spectators. The construction costs about 800 million yuan while its service life only lasted less than 10 years. The explosion project costs taxpayers another 3 million.
According to local media reports, the reason for demolision was low usage. Before the demolision, the sports center had become a storehouse.
The sports center was built very sturdy, even the explosion is completed, it still takes a few months to completely dismantle this project.
