China has built 2640 nature reserves, accounted for 14.93% of total land area

To the end of 2011, China has established 2640 nature reserves (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions) with the total area of 1.49 million square kilometers, land nature reserves cover about 14.93% of China’s total land area, said Lee Ganjie, Vice Minister of Environmental Protection Ministry in Nature and Ecology Conservation Working Conference on 22.

Biodiversity conservation has been strengthened in China. China has set up “International Year of Biodiversity China National Committee”, led by Vice Premier Li Keqiang, to coordinate the biodiversity conservation.

Mr.Li Ganjie reviewed the positive progress of ecological conservation made during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, called for better performance in natural ecological protection.
