The media reception of the 2nd Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) has been held on April 21st. Lu Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Beijing, extended sincere greetings and warm welcome to journalists covering Beijing International Film Festival.
With music and flowers, the atmosphere of China National Convention Center, one of the major venue of BJIFF, was warm and fashionable, which echoed the festival theme of”Pooling together domestic and international film-making resources and providing a platform for showcase, interaction and trading”. Before the reception, journalists exchanged their expectations for the festival. A journalist from Al-Jazeera Television said he noticed the opening films of BJIFF are One Separation from Iran and Full Circle from China. He also believes BJIFF was a grand international film event and he expects to know Chinese audience’s comments on Iran films.
Lu Wei extended his warm welcome to the journalists on behalf of People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and the organizing committee of BJIFF and briefed on the ten highlights of this film festival:1)Star-studded Red Carpet event. About 300 Chinese and foreign film professionals will attend the Red Carpet event.2)Guests numbers doubled. About 4000 Chinese and foreign guests will participate in related activities of BJIFF, a double growth from that of last year.3)Film screening with new highlights. 260 Chinese and foreign new films will be screened in 20 cinemas in Beijing. 4) High quality Chinese films.The newest and most representative Chinese films will be released for guests and film fans.5)Active participation in Beijing Film Market. Institutions participating in the Beijing Film market increase from over 300 to nearly 500. 6) Optimized layout of event venues. The major venues and major activities are concentrated in central area of Olympic Park. 7) Improvement in the market-oriented operation. BJIFF takes China Unicom as its high-end strategic partner.8) Higher degree of internationalization. BJIFF learns from advanced international ideas and successful experience, especially from world-renowned film festivals. 9) Greater participation of the public. The total participation of the festival will reach 1 million,enabling BJIFF to be a cultural festival shared by the public. 10) Embodiment of Beijing style. The Olympic concepts of “Green, scientific and People’s Olympics” and the Beijing Spirits of “Patriotism, Innovation, Inclusiveness and Virtue” have be integrated.
The 2nd BJIFF is co-hosted by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. About 900 journalists from over 180 media institutions in 30 countries and regions will cover this event. Before the reception, Lu Wei met the festival staff and volunteers and ordered them to work in a prudent, standard and proper manner and hold an international film event with international standard and Beijing style.
