He Guoqiang stresses regeneration of old industrial base

A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has urged greater efforts in revitalizing old industrial bases in northeast China.

He Guoqiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark during a two-day tour concluding Sunday in Changchun, the provincial capital of Jilin.

Since the government implemented a strategy to regenerate the country’s old industrial bases including the northeast, the northeastern region is developing in a healthy way, He said.

He said Jilin should make full use of precious opportunities including a plan to rejuvenate the economy of northeast China during the country’s 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).

Jilin should coordinate efforts to promote the province’s industrialization, urbanization and modernization of agriculture, further deepen its reform and opening up, ensure and improve people’s livelihoods and maintain social harmony and stability, he said.

He visited a local company which processes agricultural products and urged it to stick to the path of independent innovation, boost the deep processing of agricultural products and promote farmers’ income increases.

He hailed a project to improve the heating conditions of residential buildings after visiting a community in Changchun.

He also urged the local government to make unswerving efforts to improve the CPC’s work style, build a clean government and fight corruption.

Last week, the Chinese government approved the plan to regenerate northeast China’s economy during the 2011-2015 period.

According to the plan, the northeastern region, once a leading industrial hub, will be built into an internationally competitive base for equipment manufacturing, raw materials and energy supplies.
