The Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China held a press conference on March 22, 2012 to announce that it has concluded the discussion and deliberation of the draft administrative regulation of the “Reserve Land for Military Use of the PLA Macao Garrison” and will provide a piece of land covering an area of 18,858 square meters adjacent to the Typa Military Camp to the Macao Garrison of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) for military use free of charge.

According to the Article 13 of the “Law of the People’s Republic of China on Garrisoning the Macao Special Administrative Region”, land for military use of the Macao Garrison is provided free of charge by the government of the Macao SAR.

Liang Qingting, spokesman of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao SAR, said that the purpose of reserving land for military use of the PLA Macao Garrison is to meet the need of the PLA Macao Garrison in various aspects such as adjusting the size of personnel and constructing training facilities and equipment depot. So far, the total land area of the Typa Military Camp amounts to 61,045 square meters.

Liang Qingting also said that the government of the Macao SAR will remove the sports and recreational facilities, including football, basketball, climbing venues and the traffic safety information center on the existing land to other places. The government has made proper arrangements to ensure that the relocation work will not influence the use of sports and recreational facilities for the general public.
