Chinese and British leaders exchange congratulations on 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and British Prime Minister David Cameron today exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level.

Wen Jiabao said in his message that in the past 40 years, the Sino-British relations have withstood various international situation and kept constant development. Currently, Sino-British comprehensive strategic partnership has matured, the content of cooperation has been constantly enriched. Two countries have established the mechanism of Prime Minister’s annual meeting, high-level dialogue on economic and financial issues and cultural exchange.

Cameron said in his message that since Britain and China established diplomatic relations 40 years ago, the two countries have continuously strengthened the breadth and depth of bilateral relations. This year, the Sino-British cultural exchange mechanism will be launched in the UK, London will host the Olympic Games, such events will provide a unique opportunity for educational and cultural relations between the two countires. It has significant importance to to our generation and generations to come.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also exchanged congratulatory messages with British Foreign Secretary William Hague.
