UA Cinemas is to open an IMAX theatre at Hong Kong International Airport (artist’s impression, pictured) from the second quarter of this year.
With a seating capacity of 358 and a screen that is 13.89m high and 22.42m wide it claims to be the largest of the territory’s three IMAX theatres. It will be the only one not part of a multiplex. Both the existing cinemas are operated by UA in shopping malls in Kowloon.
UA says that its new screen is the world’s first IMAX theatre in an airport and that its audience will include travellers and local residents.
In Hong Kong UA operates 8 cinemas with 38 screens. Its UA iSquare includes one of the world’s top 5 grossing IMAX theatres.
