China and Russia obstruct the intervention of the West on Syria

China and Russia have blocked twice a resolution of the UN Security Council condemning the Syrian crackdown. These two countries, allies of Damascus, are again on the frontlines yesterday.

China has described remarks by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as “unacceptable“, while the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin denounced the attitude “cynical” of the West. Clinton called to urge Beijing and Moscow to “change position” on Syria last week.

Faced with the continued repression in Syria, the EU adopted a 12th set of sanctions against Syria, primarily aimed its central bank in the hope of restricting the ways of funding the Syrian regime.
