New Asian record: Liu Xiang defeats Robles at British Grand Prix

Chinese star Liu Xiang beat Cuban rival Dayron Robles at the British Grand Prix Indoor on Saturday.

Liu Xiang’s victory of 7.41secs in the 60m hurdles is the world best time this season, and broke the Asian record kept by himself. He created the original asian record 7.42secs in 2007.

It’s Liu’s first competition at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena since he won bronze in the world indoor championships in 2003 at the age of 19.

The result was the perfect confidence-boost for Liu, who is preparing for the upcoming World Indoor Championships in Istanbul as he attempts to win back his Olympic crown from Robles later this year.
