Chongqing is to start the modernization of 500 small towns in 2012 to make people living there more convenient for shopping. According to Chongqing Urban and Rural Construction Commission on February 15, these small towns will benifit more from public finance and infrastructure construction, bringing the local industries forward by focusing on the development of commerce in the towns.
The Commission also said for a major part of those 500 towns, located outside the main urban districts of Chongqing, the recreation and shopping facilities will be designed to the style and level of those in the main urban areas. It’s been told except for the local chains such as Chongqing Department Store and New Century, some internationally-renowned supermarkets like Walmart and Carrefour,also intend to extend business here.
