10th Chinese escort taskforce starts independent escort

At 06:30 on November 22, 2011, local time, the 10th escort taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) escorted a group of merchant ships to sail from the waters north of the Sokotra Island on the Arabic Sea to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. This is the first time for the 10th Chinese escort taskforce to independently carry out the escort mission.

The escorted merchant ships included the Chinese “Yandanghai” merchant ship, and merchant ships of the United Kingdom, Turkey and other countries. Liu Haitao, head of the command group of the taskforce, told the reporters that this was the 393rd escort operation conducted by the taskforces of the Chinese Navy, and the taskforce adopted the escort pattern of accompanying sailing and was expected to arrive at the destination waters on the morning of November 24.

Previously, the 10th Chinese escort taskforce had completed two escort operations of 14 Chinese and foreign ships jointly with the 9th Chinese escort taskforce.
