Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held talks Monday on major issues of common interest, including bilateral relations and current international political and economic issues.
Wen said the two countries in recent years have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges, strengthened political trust, economic cooperation and made close coordination in international affairs.
In complicated international political and economic situations, China and Russia as neighbors and global partners, should strengthen their strategic coordination and bilateral friendship, said Wen.
Good Sino-Russian relations not only reinforce the fundamental interests of both countries, but also bring peace and development worldwide, he added.
China and Russia are in favor of the diversity of the world and against the domination of world affairs by single power or group of powers, he said.
China hopes the two countries can support each other, help each other and work together to meet the challenges, said the Chinese leader. The two countries should work together to advance the democratization of international politics and establish a new political and economic international order, he has said.
The Chinese premier noted that the two economies are healthy and have respective advantages. Russia has advanced technology and rich in natural resources while China enjoys a good momentum of development and its huge market. The two countries could use their respective strengths for the long term mutually beneficial cooperation, Wen said.
The two countries should seize this opportunity and strengthen planning and coordination to further promote cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, finance, science and technology, he said. Cooperation in these areas would bring tangible benefits to both countries, such as strengthening the national competitiveness, international influence, support for global economic recovery and growth, Wen said.
Putin spoke highly of the development of Sino-Russian relations, saying that frequent exchanges between leaders of both countries have promoted a high level of political mutual trust and development of bilateral relations.
Cooperation between the two countries in fields such as politics, economy, culture and international affairs have reached unprecedented levels, he added.
The two countries have broad common interests and face similar challenges, said Mr. Putin. Therefore, the progress of their strategic partnership of cooperation is of strategic importance for both the two countries and the world, said Mr. Putin.
Russia is ready to work with China to implement the consensus reached between leaders of both countries, and strive to work to advance bilateral relations and contribute to peace and global development, he said .
The two leaders spoke after a meeting of Prime Ministers of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
