“My President H.E. Mr. Michael Sata sent a positive and strong message to the world and Zambian people last Saturday. Zambia recognized China as a key partner in Zambian economic development”, Hon. Mr. Wlybur Simuusa, Minister of Mines and Natural Resources told H.E. Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao when they had a meeting in the early morning on Monday, 31 October, 2011.
During the meeting, Minister Simuusa praised that China, as the second biggest economy in the world, was playing an very important role in the international community and was still making progress forward. He repeated H.E. Mr. Michael Sata saying that Zambia would eliminate the misunderstanding between the two countries and work together to change the wrong perception. He stressed that Zambia, with a view to developing its own economy, reducing poverty and making the mineral resources benefit the its people, had to learn a lot from China as an important partner. He said that he was to attend a mining conference to be held in China and he was looking forward to explore ways how to enhance bilateral cooperation with his Chinese counterparts.
Ambassador Zhou thanked the Minister for accepting his audience and congratulated him on his appointment as Zambia’s mining minister. He pledged to work together with him and his ministry to expand bilateral cooperation in the mining industry.
Hon. Richard Musukwa,Deputy Minister and Dr. Victor Mutambo, Permanent Secretary also attended the above meeting.
