“Peace Ark” hospital ship concludes visit to Cuba

The “Peace Ark” hospital ship of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) wrapped up its medical exchange mission and goodwill visit to Cuba, and left the port of Havana for Jamaica on October 26.

During its visit to Cuba, the officers and men of the PLA invited the military and local medical workers and the officers and men of the Cuban Armed Forces to embark on and visit the “Peace Ark” hospital ship. The Chinese officers and men also visited the Cuban Naval Academy and its training ship. Both sides held discussions on such issues as teaching management and oceangoing training, and staged a football match.

The first visit of the “Peace Ark” hospital ship to Cuba aroused extensive attention and received high praise from the local government and the public. According to the local media, this visit brought the pure and advanced traditional Chinese medical science to Cuba, which was a great event that promoted the medical exchanges between the two countries. Lt. Gen. Gomez, director of the General Political Department of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, said that these activities further deepened the friendship between the people, the political parties, the governments and the militaries of the two countries.

The “Peace Ark” hospital ship is scheduled to reach Jamaica, the second stop of this tour, on October 29, local time.
