Guo Boxiong inspects “Peace Ark” hospital ship in Cuba

Gen. Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on an official goodwill visit to Cuba, inspected the visiting “Peace Ark” hospital ship of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and showed concern to all the officers and men aboard on the morning of October 26, 2011. Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias, the acting minister of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces Ministry, accompanied Guo Boxiong in the inspection tour.

During the inspection, Guo Boxiong pointed out that the hospital ship’s visit is a significant event to spread international friendship, promote Chinese medicine and uphold the spirit of international humanitarianism, and represents China’s concrete practice to fulfill its international obligations and display its image as a responsible power.

Guo Boxiong said that the bilateral friendly and cooperative relations between China and Cuba are unusual, as evidenced by the importance attached and concern showed by the leaders of the two militaries to the “Peace Ark” hospital ship’s visit.

On behalf of the accompanying leading officers, Lt. Gen. Gomez, director of the General Political Department of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, said that Guo Boxiong’s visit coincides with the “Peace Ark” hospital ship’s visit to Cuba, which will further deepen understanding and exchanges between the two countries and the two militaries, and his sincere hope is that the cooperation between the two countries and the two militaries will be further deepened.

Guo Boxiong and his party arrived in Cuba on October 25 for an official goodwill visit.
