Earlier this week, a Chinese factory operated by Taiwan Catcher Technology (可成科技) in Suzhou has closed due to suspected pollution. This particular plant produced aluminum hulls for Apple laptops and its production would fall by 20% in October, then 40% in November.
The company will spend about 4 million dollars to renovate its plant to meet the standards. Catcher Technologies expects to restore its factory in perfect working condition as early as November. Considering the impact of the slowdown in Mac production, this incident also encouraged the company to diversify its sources of production and, perhaps, setup a plant in Taiwan.
