China’s population to reach 1.39 billion during the Twelfth Five Years Plan

China’s total population is expected to reach 1.39 billion, and working-age population will reach its peak during the Twelfth Five Years Plan, said Li Bin, the head of China’s National Population and Family Planning Commission.

Li also noted that after 30 years’ efforts of birth control, China’s rapid population growth momentum has been effectively controlled, population reproduction pattern has changed from a “high birth rate, low death rate and high growth” to “low birth rate, low death rate and low growth”, making a positive contribution to the China’s national economy and social development.

In the next five years, China’s aging population will increase 800 million per year, the first aging peak has arrived. But China has not fully prepared to meet the aging of population, especially the rural social pension insurance system, which is currently under construction, will become a great challenge.

It has been reported that the world’s population is about to reach 7 billion in the next few days, according to the United Nations.
