Director Tom Lin (林书宇) yesterday took his latest movie, “Starry Starry Night” 《星空》, a co-production between the Mainland’s Huayi Brothers and Taiwan’s Atom Cinema, to the 16th Busan International Film Festival, which runs from October 6 to 14 in South Korea.
The director was accompanied to the event by two of the movie’s lead actors, Xu Jiao and Lin Huimin.
It has been three years since a Tom Lin movie has competed at Busan, with the last one being “Winds of September”, which was nominated as part of “A Window on Asian Cinema” section at the 13th Busan International Film Festival.
Lin is very confident about his movie’s chances of success this time round. He told media, “I always expect to win an award at Busan. ‘Starry Starry Night’ is an outstanding production, and has been filmed to the highest standards.”
At a dinner party hosted by the president of Huayi Brothers, Wang Zhonglei, Lin and the prestigious Japanese director Shunji Iwai were introduced to one another after the press conference. The two directors praised one another’s work, acknowledging a similar style of filming. Some reports have indicated that Huayi Brothers has a new movie project in line for these two directors, but such reports are yet to be confirmed.
