Hu Jintao calls for reunification with Taiwan

Chinese President Hu Jintao on Sunday called for the reunification of Mainland China and Taiwan, during the commemorations of the centenary of the Xinhai revolution in China, 10 October 1911, which ended the imperial regime.

In an address to senior Communist Party leaders, including former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao has ruled out the possibility of admitting Taiwan independence. “Making the reunification peacefully is what would best meet the fundamental interests of the Chinese people including our Taiwan compatriots,” said the president.
