Hong Kong Chief Executive Election to be Held on March 25, 2012

Hong Kong SAR government spokesman said Wednesday that according to “The Chief Executive Election Ordinance” (p. 569) Article 10 (1), the next Chief Executive election will be held on March 25, 2012.

The incumbent Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang won the second election of the Chief Executive on March 25, 2007. He is barred from seeking a third-term pursuant to the Basic Law of Hong Kong.

Donald Tsang will serve until June 30, 2012. The fourth Chief Executive term will begin on 1 July 2012. The new Chief Executive will be elected by an 1200-member Election Committee.
