The Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said on Monday that China supports the accession of Palestine to the UN and the efforts to find a two-state solution through political negotiations.
Yang made the remarks during the general debate of the General Assembly of the UN.
“China has always supported the just cause of establishing an independent Palestinian state and the accession of Palestine to the UN,” said Mr Yang.
“We support efforts to find a two-state solution through political negotiations to determine, based on 1967 borders, an independent state paelestinien enjoys full sovereignty and with East Jerusalem as its capital,” said the head of China’s diplomacy.
“The two-state solution, supported largely by the international community, means a Palestinian state living in peace with Israel in security,” he added.
“We believe that progress should be made in parallel in the negotiations between Israel and Syria and the negotiations between Israel and Lebanon to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East and peaceful coexistence between Arab countries and Israel, “says Yang.
“We hope the international community and relevant parties will make unremitting efforts to this end and to advance the peace process in the Middle East,” he said.
Despite growing pressure, including threats from the United States to veto, the president of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas on Friday filed to the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon the application for membership of the Palestine at the UN.
The Security Council of the UN must begin to consider the request of Palestinian.
