China condemned on Wednesday the suicide bombing which killed Burhanuddin Rabbani, former president of Afghanistan.
“We are shocked by the death of Mr. Rabbani and condemn the attack,” said Hong Lei, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, at a regular press conference.
Rabbani, who served as president of the Higher Council for Peace in Afghanistan, was killed at his home in Kabul, the Afghan capital on Tuesday night.
Hong said Rabbani made great contributions to further the reconciliation process in Afghanistan when he assumed the presidency of the council.
The spokesman also expressed condolences on behalf of the country to the family of Rabbani.
“We sincerely hope that Afghanistan achieve peace and stability as well as reconciliation and development, as soon as possible,” said Hong.
