He Guoqiang, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Iranian Vice President Mohammad-Javad Mohammadizadeh to discuss bilateral relations in Tehran last Friday.

China has always valued the traditional friendship with Iran, said He Guoqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee.

Strengthening cooperation between China and Iran is not only in the interest of both countries, but is also conducive to peace and development in the region and around the world, said Mr. He, who is also secretary of the Central Commission PCC in charge of discipline inspection.

Despite the vagaries of the international situation, bilateral ties have progressed in a positive and stable way, he said.

The two economies are highly complementary and both countries have cooperated in the production of energy, said Mr. He, adding that both sides have maintained their close communication, coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.

The two countries should seize the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, which falls this year to promote their cooperation and friendly exchanges, urged the Chinese official.

For its part, the Iranian Vice President, Mr. Mohammadizadeh, said that Iran and China has continued the tradition of friendly cooperation.

Iran attaches great importance to relations with China and wants to join hands with it to further strengthen bilateral ties, and, in particular, to intensify trade cooperation, he said.

Mr. He and Mohammadizadeh attended Friday’s reception hosted by the Chinese embassy in Tehran to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Sino-Iranian relations have matured over the past 40 years, said the Iranian Vice President, before urging both sides to redouble their efforts to enhance understanding and mutual trust, cooperation and deepen mutually beneficial friendship.

The Chinese official arrived in Tehran on Friday afternoon. He met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and parliament speaker Ali Larijani and other Iranian officials on Saturday. He also attended the signing ceremony of government and commercial agreements between the two countries, for a total of $ 4 billion.
