China to Expand Strategic Cooperation with Kazakhstan

Chinese President Hu Jintao has called for deepening and broadening strategic cooperation with Kazakhstan. He was received by Nursultan Nazarbaev, the head of state, on arrival at the airport Sunday in this capital.

Hu’s state visit to this Central Asian country provides the highest level meetings, including with Prime Minister Karim Masimov, and participation in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at its tenth anniversary.

We are willing to review almost two decades of relations with our neighbor and move forward in the strategic relationship, said the leader of the Asian giant to the news agency Kazinform.

For the Chinese head of state, whose visit to this country lasts until next Wednesday, Kazakhstan is a neighbor and strategic partner. Both countries are members of the SCO and the positive progress links to mutual interest, he said.

Hu also spoke in favor of the final regulation of the boundary issue, which has lagged in time, and the signing of a bilateral good-neighborly friendship and cooperation.

He stressed the formation of a joint commission at the deputy ministers level and improving the legal basis for the advancement of a strategic partnership.

Trade between the two countries reaches 20,400 million dollars, or nearly 50 times the level at the beginning of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties, he said.
