Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the 10th meeting of foreign ministers of Asian and European and had talks with his counterparts from the European Union and certain Asian countries on several bilateral issues.
During the meeting with Catherine Ashton, leader of the EU’s foreign policy, Mr. Yang said that China wanted to cooperate with the EU to continue to push forward the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the EU.
Yang said that China and the EU, by adhering to the principles of mutual respect, should work to increase the positive aspects of bilateral relations, handle disputes in an appropriate manner, maintain the overall situation of Sino-European relations, and cooperate in managing international problems.
Ashton noted for the coordination and consensus between the growing EU and China through exchange visits of high-level strategic dialogues and. She added that she hoped China will expand to even bigger and the “Strategy 2020” from the EU will create more opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
